研究の概要

薬剤耐性 (Antimicrobial resistance; AMR) が世界的な問題となる中、我々は薬剤耐性菌の感染制御に向けた多方 面からの研究を展開している。平成 18 年よりこれまで全国規模サーベイランスの実施拠点として、国内の感染症 起炎菌の分離状況や薬剤感受性の変動、薬剤耐性菌の分離頻度などの調査を行いながら新規薬剤耐性菌に対する 耐性機序の解明を実施している。さらに併用療法を含む治療法に関する基礎研究から新たな感染症治療薬開発に 向けた創薬研究を実施するとともに、ベッドサイドや開業医でも使える迅速診断方法の開発を行っている。一方で、 院内院外の感染制御を目指し、院内感染対策チームへの協力や、感染症治療ガイドラインの作成に参加している。

Emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistant pathogens thwart efficient chemotherapy in clinical settings worldwide. This laboratory mainly conducts following lines of studies on infection control and surveys of antibiotic resistant bacteria. The laboratory serves as the reference lab for the nation-wide survey program of causative agents of infections, analyzes their antibiotic susceptibility profiles and studies the resistance mechanisms. Search of novel antibiotics amenable to resistant bac- teria. Development of rapid-and-simple diagnosis strategies applicable to private clinics and hospital bed-sides. And active involvement in the infection control team in and out of the University hospital leading towards setting/revision of infection control guidelines.

Projects of major ongoing research

  1. Having been designated as the central laboratory of the Joint Program "Antimicrobial Susceptibility Surveillance” since 2006, we have been conducting surveillance on behalf of three academic societies: the Japanese Society of Chemotherapy (JSC), Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases (JAID), and Japanese Society for Clinical Microbiology (JSCM)
  2. Studies on the resistance mechanisms of multi-drug resistant bacteria including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDRP) and Acinetobacter baumannii (MDRA).
  3. Epidemiological studies of capsular polysaccharide serotypes in clinical isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae
  4. Development of simple-and-rapid diagnostic tests to detect infectious agents by the immunochromatographic method (a joint project with manufacturers)
  5. Search and development of novel antimicrobial agents against MDR bacteria (a joint project with in-house laboratories)
  6. Cooperation with the Infections Control Teams at Kitasato University Hospital and Kitasato Institute Hospital
  7. Participation in the setting and revision of the MRSA treatment guidelines as a joint project with the JSC and JAID
  8. Evaluation of products under development, post-marketing surveys, as commissioned research
